Coastal Karnataka, including Udupi, has been placed on high alert by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) due to continuous heavy rains. The IMD has issued an 'orange' alert for the region, urging residents to take necessary precautions and stay indoors to avoid potential accidents. The state government, acknowledging the severity of the weather, decided to close schools in Udupi, Kodagu, and Dharwad districts on Monday.
Additionally, the state meteorological department has raised a 'yellow' alert for the districts of Belagavi, Yadgir, Dharwad, and Bidar, predicting moderate to heavy rainfall in those areas.
The northern part of Karnataka is grappling with the relentless downpour, resulting in flooding and submerging 16 low-height bridges since Friday. The waterlogged bridges have impeded public movement, causing disruptions in those regions.
