Despite urging Kanpur residents to be prepared for waterlogging by using boats and keeping life jackets handy, Samajwadi Party MLA Amitabh Bajpai faced a fine of ₹2,000 from the city's traffic police for breaking traffic regulations. Bajpai promptly paid the penalty on Saturday, confirming his compliance with the issued challan.
Expressing his grievances, Mr. Bajpai stated to PTI that he decided to protest against the problem of waterlogging and what he claimed to be corruption within the municipal corporation. Commencing his demonstration from Sarsaiyya Ghat in Kanpur, the MLA placed a boat on the roof of his SUV and traveled through Bada Chauraha, Meston Road, Moolganj, Express Road, and Phoolbagh.
The city has been heavily impacted by widespread waterlogging, affecting various areas such as VIP Road, Civil Lines, Babupurwa, Raipurwa, and Juhi Bridge. Tragically, a delivery boy reportedly lost his life in an incident where he allegedly drowned on a waterlogged road.
